Reflexology has deep historical roots, tracing back to Ancient Egypt around 2500 BC, where hieroglyphics on the tomb wall of physician Ankmahor the practice of massage on hands and feet. Various cultures, including Buddhist, Hindu, and Jewish, emphasize significance of removing shoes in sacred spaces, highlighting the importance of feet in spiritual traditions. The Chinese have utilized on acupressure points for over 5,000 years, while Dr. William Fitzgerald introduced the of Zone Therapy in the early 1900s. He discovered that applying pressure to specific body areas could produce healing effects elsewhere, leading to the development of a map that connects different body parts through ten longitudinal zones, illustrating the intricate interrelationship of the body systems.

Eunice Ingham expanded understanding of reflexology by meticulously researching the positioning and effects on specific reflex points. Her groundbreaking work led to the creation of an anatomical map of the body overlaid onto the foot. In 1938, she shared her findings in the influential book “Stories the Feet Can Tell,” followed by another insightful publication, “Stories the Feet Have.” These contributions have significantly shaped the practice of reflexology and its appreciation in holistic health.

Reflexology is usually treated on the feet due to over 200,000 nerve endings being present but can also treat the  hands, ears and face.
